Hello my name is
Todd Beard, and I am a
teacher. I have lived in Ann Arbor, Hartland, Grosse
Pointe, Fort Wayne, Sault Ste. Marie, Grand Blanc, Quebec City,
and Flint. Education has been my inspiration, since birth
curiosity has fueled my ambitions, and from there topics have
sparked my interests. My focus in education is elementary math
and language arts, because all other disciplines revolve around
the function of relating numbers and words. My pedagogy is to
promote continuous improvement, teamwork, and self discovery.
The following picture icons on the right side are links to some of the work I've been
doing in the field of Educational Technology.

My
objectives in pursuing a Masters of Public Administration in Educational
Administration are to continue my education towards a leadership
position, to increase my knowledge of resources, policies, and
procedures in educational administration, and to work with other
individuals with similar goals and experiences. I have always welcomed
the opportunity to share in leadership roles both personally and
professionally. Through my experiences, I have learned that great
leaders achieve greatness through preparations, and I will constantly be
preparing myself. To be ready, I will need to study and understand
the dynamic and changing resources, policies, and procedures in the
educational system. Leadership abilities develop from interactions with
team members and mentors. A good leader knows when to follow; likewise
the team captain in any sport is still a contributor to the team. I
wish to work together with other students, teachers, and administrators
to develop my own pedagogy. As we learn from each other and teach each
other about how to make an educational system run like a finely tuned
engine, each part will be driving the whole towards moving forward.
My
interests within the realm of educational administration lay in using
technology to further the motivation and education of students, to
decrease operational expenses, and to maintain and analyze data on
school improvement. I have done research to investigate student
motivation through technology. My thesis project for Meeting of
Minds at Oakland University, "We are at War", examined how educational
technology software could learn a few things from the video game
industry's evolution. By piggybacking off of their successes, educators
would no longer have to battle for their students to do work at home. I
also presented two other research projects the previous year at the
Flint Meeting of Minds. I examined district technology goals, and how
teachers can use technology on a daily basis to enhance learning and
retention.
I have
received the Commitment to Service award for over 700 hours of community
service. I have a bachelors degree in Elementary Education with a 6-8
Math certification, and IC3 (Internet Core Computing) certification.
I expect to move up through teaching to a technology and/or
administrative position within the coming years, but I love the
classroom. I also plan to continue my involvement in educational
institutions in any way possible.
