Goals and Objectives

For the purposes of developing a character, college, and career improving after-school activity, I am proposing the creation of a video journalism class. Students will learn the fundamentals of how to: write drafts, create storyboards, produce video series, direct peers, operate equipment, edit productions, and develop all the programming of a local television station.

The goal of the program is to educate students in video journalism and producing an inspiring product that they can keep forever. The long-term goal would be to educate middle school students to be able to produce a video announcement program to play each morning at IAF in the years to come. To accomplish this goal, we will set short-term goals of producing multiple types of programs including; newscasts, interviews, evaluations/reviews, public service announcements, character education skits, sports highlights, educational programs, school updates, and current affairs.

Content expectations

Students will be able to:

· Manage a group through project based learning

· Use technology such as audio/video software, computers, camcorders, cameras, and microphones

· Plan, write, edit, review, conference, and produce (writing process)

· Work in groups to create a final product

· Coordinate school events with relevant coverage and planning

· Educate parents, peers, and the community in the fundamentals of video journalism
