How did the use of technology help my students learn this subject matter? This experience was based mostly on the use of technology and would not have been possible without it. The students spent 90% of the class time working online using the POOT website. The students had the opportunity every time that they got online to have discussions with other characters. Not only did they learn more about themselves as they had to continue playing their roles, but they also learned who the other characters were. They learned first hand about the viewpoints of all sorts of characters throughout history. How has teaching these lessons changed the way I think about integrating technology into teaching? This project has really opened my eyes to the possibilities of using technology in the classroom. Before this I thought of using technology in terms of giving presentations and researching. I never realized how much more engaging a lesson could be with this type of interaction inside the classroom. It makes the experience for the students that much more exciting and a lot more interesting. What did you learn about your students as learners that you did not realize before? Well, considering that these are not my own students this is somewhat difficult to answer. I can say, however, that I was very impressed by these students critical thinking skills and their role playing skills. They really got into their parts and thoroughly enjoyed debating about the various scenarios we discussed. As the weeks went by the students got more in depth with each other and had a lot of fun with it. As a result of this experience, what learning do you think you need to continue your professional growth? I have found that using technology in the classroom is extremely useful and has so much more relevance when using hands on experiences. I would like to learn how to use more simulations like this in my classroom. It not only engages the students more but keeps it interesting. |
