Lesson Plans Objectives: · Students will use a variety of resources including the internet to research and gather information for each character. · Students will participate in online journaling. · Students will participate in classroom discussions and debates while role playing. · Students will complete a bibliography. · Students will sit in on a virtual hearing: Carson vs. Southwest General Hospital Tentative due dates: January 5– Immediate Family Personal History January 5– Adult Personal History January 8– Character Biliography January 18– Political events January 18– Philosophical Positions January 30– Publications Time Period February 5– Today’s World Each week– Journaling through POOT “Memoirs of My Life” Character Project · As a participant of POOT, students will put together a book on their individual philosophical character. The goal is to learn as much as possible about their characters. · The students will research their characters in Sophie’s World and in Wikipedia. The students need to have about five sources, however. · Students should pay attention to specific details and oddities. · The students must learn how to role play once their research is finished. At this point they need to put together their memoirs. Write a resume or biography for POOT · The students must become their character and respond as though their character would. The should incorporate the unique personality of the characters. Debates · The students will be given a crime case in order to take sides on pertaining to their character’s roles. They will take sides on whether or not the defendant deserves the Death Penalty. · Four students will be chosen to debate on each side. The rest of the students become the jury. Journaling · Throughout the semester the students will be interactive on the POOT website and will post journal entries. · They should be responding to entries posted to them, as well as posting to other characters.
