Goals/Plan of Attack

The goal of this research is to isolate those properties of low redshift QSOs which either encourage or prohibit the production of NAL gas. Our plan of attack to address this question is as follows.
  1. Isolate a sample of low redshift QSO which is unbiased toward the detection of associated systems.
  2. Perform a systematic search for associated systems and statistically assess how many are likely to be truly intrinsic.
  3. Gather data about each QSO which may be important to the NAL issue. These data include spectral indices and luminosities in the radio, optical, and X-ray regimes in addition to the radio morphology and CIV emission line FWHM.
  4. Perform exploratory clustering analyses to isolate where NALQSOs and non-NALQSOs live in parameter space.
