All Christians 'targets,' Iraqi militant group says

Posted by Dan on November 4, 2010 at 8:21 PM

After the deadline for Egypt’s Coptic Church to release Muslim prisoners expired Iraqi militants said that all of the Christians in the Middle East are now targets. Security at places of worship has been increased because of this threat. http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/meast/11/03/iraq.christians.threat/index.html

The chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom said that the Christians in the Middle East face "a grave terrorist threat." I don’t fully understand this article, or what is even going on with this situation. What I do know is that I find this absolutely disturbing. I go to church every Wednesday and Sunday to worship. I can’t imagine being bombarded by gunmen and crazy terrorists with explosive wardrobes.
Also, I will never understand how people can use the very lives of others to get what they want. The gunmen were demanding that the Iraqi government release a number of detainees and prisoners in Iraqi prisons, saying the Christian hostages would be freed in return? Really? I just can’t fathom holding someone hostage in order to get my way. This whole thing is obnoxious.
