Jenoptik AG is a high-technology company, based in Jena, Germany, that specializes in the fields of systems engineering and photonics. Jenoptik can trace its heritage back to the original Carl Zeiss AG company, founded in Jena in 1846. Jenoptik is regarded as one of the few companies descended from an East German state-owned enterprise to be successful in the post-Reunification era. The company is split up into five divisions of activities. Lasers and Material Processing, Optical Systems, Industrial Metrology, Traffic Solutions and Defense and Civil Systems are the sectors within the company Jenoptik. The company spans over 70 countries in the world and has major production sites around the United States. Jenoptik has around 3,000 employees and in 2011 generated sales of approximately 540 million Euros or 702 million U.S. dollars.
